Gum Disease
If you gums are swollen and tender or bleed easily when you brush your teeth,
you may have gum disease.
Did you know that:
- 75% of adult tooth loss is caused by gum disease.
- Approximately 80% of the population has some degree of gum disease.
- Gum disease is an infection of the gums and jawbones caused by the colonization of
bacteria underneath the tartar on your teeth.
- Bacteria and the chemical by-products that the body uses to fight these bacteria
can enter the blood stream and cause serious problems in distant parts of the body.
- There are often no obvious signs of gum disease for a long time.
- Scientists have now linked gum disease to heart disease, stroke, diabetes,
premature births, and low birth weight.
When you come in for your check-up, we will carefully do a thorough exam to check for
any signs or symptoms of gum disease. If you are diagnosed with gum disease, our
non-invasive laser therapy for periodontal disease will stop the destructive condition
and restore your oral health without surgery.
