Back to School: Back to Dental Routine

September 13, 2013

Kids and parents tend to get away from a good oral hygiene routine during the summer, so with the school buses rolling and school bells ringing, this is a good time to get back on track.

Here are some additional tips to practice good oral care during the school year:

  • School-age children should see a dentist twice a year, because this is a time of great change in the mouth as many kids transition from baby teeth to permanent ones.
  • Children should also drink plenty of water during the school day.
  • Send kids to after school practice with fruits, nuts, bite-sized carrots and bottled water that will deliver the energy kids need without the downside of sugary snacks.
  • Finally, Dr. Gasper encourages parents to fit their sports-minded children with mouth guards to protect their teeth and jaw. Under Armour mouth guards are available at Aesthetic Dentistry by Design in Colorado Springs.

5 Ways to Destroy Your Teeth

May 13, 2013

  1. Forgetting to Floss If you don’t floss, you miss cleaning 35% of your tooth surfaces.Flossing your teeth cleans between the teeth and under the gum line.
  2. Skipping Hygiene Appointments – It is recommended to go to the dentist every six months, but many patients do not. Not going often enough allows plaque to form into tartar which is much harder to get off and also attracts more plaque.
  3. Using Your Teeth Like Tools – Using your teeth to break up hard candy, open bags and pop of bottle tops can cause your teeth to break or crack. Instead of using your teeth to help you do things, opt for a scissors or bottle opener and save your teeth the extra wear and tear.
  4. Ditching the Mouth Guard – It only takes a second to break a tooth.  In addition to protecting teeth, Under Armour mouth guards at Aesthetic Dentistry by design help increase your strength, speed, and balance. Learn more.
  5. Smoking Cigarettes – Smoking stains your teeth making it more susceptible to bacteria. It is also a cause of gum and bone disease. Quitting smoking can greatly increase your chances of having a healthy mouth.

April is National Facial Protection Month – As You “Spring” Into A More Active Lifestyle, Get A Competitive Edge With Under Armour Performance Mouthwear

April 5, 2012

Filed under: Under Armour Performance Mouthwear — admin @ 9:40 am

Mouth guards aren’t just for boxers and pro-athletes. Safety is an important part of any sport. So, while you are shopping for helmets and knee-pads, don’t forget your mouth. An athletic mouth guard could be the difference between breaking records and breaking teeth.  The ADA even encourages patients to use protective mouthguards during recreational sports such as rollerblading and skateboarding.

It is especially important to outfit your school-aged athlete with a mouth guard for practice and tournament play. In addition to protecting teeth, some mouthguards, such as Under Armour mouthwear, are designed to improve athletic performance.

More than just a mouthguard, Under Armour Performance Mouthwear is custom designed to reduce jaw tension, allowing you to focus on what’s important – smearing the competition!

Patented ArmourBite Technology prevents your teeth from clenching and pivots your jaw forward to relieve pressure on the TMJ. Gone are the excess negative hormones and the energy-draining effects, so the body can now unleash its full potential.

April is National Facial Protection month so let’s all celebrate by making an appointment to discuss your mouth guard needs and options with Dr. Ken Gasper of Aesthetic Dentistry by Design in Colorado Springs.

ArmourBite: Mouthwear for better golf

October 10, 2011

Filed under: Celebrity Smiles,Under Armour Performance Mouthwear — admin @ 9:13 am

Golf Digest recently posted this

Available at Aesthetic Dentistry by Design, Under Armour Performance Mouthwear has been used by LPGA’s Vicky Hurst and Champions Tour player Bruce Fleisherwho is an outspoken advocate of its benefits.

From the article:

It is called the potato-chip test. Place a potato chip in your mouth and attempt to hit a shot without breaking the chip.

“The concept of affecting performance by adjusting the jaws is centuries old. Viking and Roman warriors often bit on leather straps before going to battle. [Olympic sprinter] Usain Bolt used to bite on a neckless when he’d run.”

What the ArmourBite does is adjusts the placement of the jaw. “The wedge changes the physiology of what’s happening,” Molhoek said. “It interrupts the signal to the brain and as a result of that leads to the benefits — increased strength, endurance, reduction of lactic acid, reduction of cortisol. Cortisol has been linked to the yips. It’s really a bad thing, the antithesis of testosterone. It saps your ability to perform.”

Hurst said that it did not make her a better golfer, but it helped her play her best, according to Molhoek. The first time Fleisher used it,  he reported no fatigue for the first time in years. Fleisher said that this product made him feel exactly the same on hole one and hole 18.

This Sports Season, Give Your Child And Team a Competitive Edge

January 27, 2011

Would you like to increase your strength, speed, and balance without any training?

Sounds too good to be true, right?

Professional athletes across the nation are stepping up their game with the Under Armour Performance Mouthwear.

Sports teams are benefiting as well!

More than just a mouthguard, Under Armour Performance Mouthwear is custom designed to reduce jaw tension, allowing you to focus on what’s important – smearing the competition!

When you train and compete, your natural reaction is to clench your jaw. It’s part of the “fight or flight” wiring of your brain. Your clenched jaw and teeth compress your temporomandibular joint (TMJ), triggering the release of excess amounts of performance-sapping hormones (like cortisol) that produce stress, fatigue and distraction.

UA Performance Mouthwear helps the human body help itself by unlocking the power of the jaw. Patented ArmourBiteTM Technology prevents your teeth from clenching and pivots your jaw forward to relieve pressure on the TMJ. Gone are the excess negative hormones and the energy-draining effects, so the body can now unleash its full potential.

It’s recommended for adults, children eight and older and teams who play contact, no-contact, and limited-contact sports, including football, baseball, soccer, tennis, and golf.
