CEREC Crowns in Colorado Springs

CERECIn a hurry but still want to take care of your smile? Dr. Gasper and his staff at Aesthetic Dentistry by Design have the perfect solution. In Colorado Springs, CEREC crowns provide strong coverage for a damaged tooth and they are made right here in our office! With a traditional crown, you’d have to wait a couple of weeks for the finished restoration to be delivered from a dental lab. With CEREC, those days are gone.

What is CEREC?

CEREC—which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEramic REConstruction—is made by Sirona Dental Systems. Comprised of three main components—an infrared digital camera, a 3D CAD system and a milling unit—CEREC produces dental crowns, porcelain veneers and inlays and onlays in a single visit to your dentist in Colorado Springs.

How does CEREC work?

Essentially, CEREC condenses all of the steps necessary to fabricate and place a crown. For example, instead of having to endure the discomfort of a mouthful of dental modeling material to create a mold of your tooth, we use CEREC’s convenient camera to capture detailed images of the tooth that needs repair. These images are then transferred to the CEREC computer that is loaded with software to create a virtual representation of your tooth. The computer uses this representation to design your dental crown or any other tooth restoration. CEREC’s design incorporates not only the size and shape of the crown you need, but also the exact color that will match your other teeth. Of course, we can always go a shade or two whiter if you are planning to enhance your smile with teeth whitening.

Once this process is finished, the milling unit receives the design and your new crown is precisely carved from a solid piece of tooth-colored ceramic materials. In less than 30 minutes, the restoration is ready for placement over your tooth. Dr. Gasper will double-check the fit and appearance of the crown before he cements it into place. Because a CEREC restoration is made of ceramic and does not contain any metals, your crown will bond with the remaining tooth structure to create a healthier and stronger tooth.
