CEREC procedure makes getting a crown at the dentist simpler, faster

We found a great article about “a promising procedure for those in need of a quick and natural-looking tooth restoration which is helping patients spend less time in the dentist office.”

CEREC One-Visit Crowns (which are available at Aesthetic Dentistry by Design in Colorado Springs, CO.)

From the article:

  • “CEREC is a way for dentists to create ceramic tooth restorations that are highly durable and closely match a tooth’s current color, according to its website. The filling, crown or veneer typically can be completed right in the dentist’s office during one appointment.
  • After a damaged tooth is prepped in an office, it is coated with a powder substance. The dentist then uses a state-of-the-art digital 3-D camera to create an optical impression of the damaged area, which replaces the need for a traditional physical impression.

Using the CEREC method, crown restoration is completed in a single appointment. No impression, no temporary crowns – no need for a second injection.

  • Computer-aided design software then develops a precise detail of the restoration and customizes the shape of the impression to meet the needs of the specific patient.
  • The design specifications are then sent to an in-office milling machine where a crown, made from a small porcelain block that matches the color of surrounding teeth, is designed in 20 minutes. After, it is available to be bonded and fitted for permanence over the damaged tooth.”
