There are two things you can count on when a dental emergency happens – it won’t be convenient and it will probably feel scary and maybe even overwhelming. The first thing to do is to remain calm and remember that when you have the right team on your side, everything will be all right. When you know what to do, your situation may not feel as stressful. Your dentist in Colorado Springs discusses how to handle a dental emergency.
Dental Infections or Toothaches
When your tooth becomes sensitive or constantly painful, this is an indicator of a dental infection. It’s important to understand that a dental infection won’t go away without treatment. Root canal therapy may be able to preserve your tooth, but you should contact Aesthetic Dentistry by Design right away in order to avoid more pain, spread of infection, and possible tooth loss. We’ll make every effort to see you as soon as possible so we can get your condition diagnosed and help you feel comfortable again.
Soft Tissue Injuries
When your cheeks, lips, or gum tissue sustains an injury, there can be a lot of bleeding. So your first order of business is to stop the bleeding with light pressure from a cold compress. Once it’s contained, give our office a call for further instructions.
A Broken or Chipped Tooth
When your tooth is chipped, no matter how small, you should contact our office to be seen. Even the smallest chip can cause injury or irritation to your soft tissue. There are different treatment options available for repairing a chipped tooth, and Dr. Gasper, your emergency dentist in Colorado Springs, will determine the best course action.
For large fractures or breaks, please bring the pieces of your tooth with you if possible and contact our office to be seen right away.
A Knocked Out Tooth
When your tooth has been knocked out, time is of the essence. Dr. Gasper has the best chance of saving your tooth if he can treat it within one hour of the injury or accident. Try to handle your tooth as little as possible, and transport it carefully. Placing it back into its socket is best if possible, or transporting it in a baggie full of milk will keep the cells moist and alive.
