Why did you get into the dental industry?

I got into the dental profession because as a child, my whole family was afraid of the dentist therefore we avoided it unless there was extreme pain. After multiple appointments as an adult to get my mouth to a state of health I realized the importance of teeth and gums. I wanted to conquer my fear by helping patients get to a point where things are maintained beautifully through proper homecare and dental cleanings/exams.

Favorite celebrity smile. I absolutely love Julia Roberts smile so gorgeous!!

What’s your approach to working with children?

My personal approach is to make it a fun experience for them! I do what they’re comfortable with, give them a ride in the dental chair, familiarize them with the different things we will be using I let them see and touch certain things so they’re not afraid. I ask them if they want their teeth to feel shiny and sparkly? If it’s too overwhelming for them then we will try again next time. Either way they get a prize and toothbrush/floss!! I also believe it is crucial for parents to be in the back with the children especially the first several visits, and that parents should speak of the dental visit as a positive experience at home so the child is excited in the chair.

What advice do you have for patients who have dental phobias?

My advice to those patients is that things are a lot easier and more comfortable than they use to be, I think those patients, myself included, have had a negative experience from a while ago and it tends to stick a bit unfortunately. Things are so much better than they were, and there are things we can do to make their visit more comfortable. The patient must communicate to us what exactly they are anxious about so we can do our best to make it a positive experience for them.

Besides “Brush & floss daily” what is your favorite oral health care tip?

I really am a big advocate on inspecting your mouth a couple of times a week since oral cancer is a huge issue. Stick your tongue out at yourself in the mirror then look at the sides of your tongue, top of the tongue, under the tongue, and inspect your lips. Get familiar with your mouth and what it looks like!! We will also check all these areas when you come in for your dental cleaning and exam.

Favorite Colorado Springs restaurant? Shuga’s

What services, that Aesthetics Dentistry by Design offers, have you personally received?

I have gotten the Cerec one day crowns done, which are so awesome you don’t have to come back for the permanent crown, your done after you leave! I also have the Under Armour Mouthwear and I wear it when I lift weights at my Crossfit gym. I was putting so much tension on my teeth when lifting that I actually chipped a tooth about 3 months ago! I feel that I’m more focused now on my workouts instead of worrying what stress I was doing to my jaw, teeth and body with no protection.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I spend time with my family I’m married and I have two kids Adriana 13 years old, and Lawrence Jr. 10 years old, also two doggies Cocoa Butter, and Gracie! I like to read a lot, workout and I teach Zumba Fitness classes a couple of times a week. I love to be a part of people’s fitness goals!!

Favorite Colorado Springs family activity? Walking with dogs and family at Garden of the Gods.

What was your first job: McDonalds!!
