Seal the Deal on Decay

We found a great article about the benefits of sealants and their ability to prevent tooth decay.

From the article:

  • There are about 4 million children in the U.S who have difficulty sleeping, eating and learning because of caries (tooth decay).
  • Caries is the number one, chronic childhood disease, and it is preventable.
  • One simple way to prevent caries is applying sealant to the top surface of your child’s permanent molars where the majority of cavities start.
  • Statistics show that caries are reduced by 87 percent the first year the sealant is applied.

Our Hygienist, Yee Fong has this to say about sealants:

“Dental sealants are a great preventative measure against tooth decay!

Due to the natural anatomic patterns of our teeth, we all have pits and fissures (on the chewing surface) which bacteria love to harbor in.  With a simple procedure, which does not involve anesthetic we place a plastic resin over these pits/fissures (on molars and premolars) to create a smooth surface, along with a self cleansing surface to prevent decay.

Dental sealants are not only beneficial for children, but for adults as well!”
