What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a titanium post that’s placed in the jaw to take the place of the root of a missing tooth. After the implant is fully fused, or integrated, with the surrounding jawbone, it can be restored with a dental crown, bridge, or denture, depending on how many teeth are missing.

What Is the Procedure Like?

Implants are done in two “phases,” and you can have both done right here at Aesthetic Dentistry | Espire Dental. First, we’ll perform a small, in-office surgery to place the implant that takes 1-2 hours.

Then you’ll be given 3-6 months for the implant to integrate with your existing jawbone. After the first initial week of healing, you’ll be able to eat and drink normally during this time and won’t feel any discomfort.

Then you’ll return for the second phase, which is having a restoration attached to your implant. We’ll match this perfectly with the rest of your smile so that it looks and feels very natural.

Are All Dental Implants the Same?

There are some differences in dental implants. For example, we can use “mini-implants” to secure full dentures. Just as the name implies, these implants are smaller and shorter than traditional implants. Typically, just 2-4 mini-implants are required per arch.

How Much Do Implants Cost?

Every patient is different, so it’s difficult to provide an exact figure. Here are some factors that will affect the total cost:

The best way to get a more specific idea of your cost is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Gasper. After evaluating your needs and discussing your goals, we’ll create a treatment plan and give you a cost estimate.

How Long Do Implants Last?

One of the reasons that implants are such a fantastic investment is that they can last several decades or a lifetime with basic care and maintenance. Fortunately, maintenance is easy and, much like your natural teeth, includes regular checkups and good oral hygiene habits.

Are Implants Right For You?
