Why Choose Aesthetic Dentistry By Design for Invisalign Clear Braces?

How Does Invisalign Work?

All orthodontic treatments use the same basic principle: a gentle but consistent force is applied to the teeth to gradually shift them into the correct positions. With metal braces, brackets and wires are used to accomplish this, but with Invisalign, a series of clear plastic aligner trays gets the job done.

Each aligner has a slightly different shape that moves the teeth closer to their ideal orientation. A patient simply has to wear each individual set of trays for about 20-22 hours a day for two weeks before progressing onto the next.

Adult patients love Invisalign because it allows them to straighten their teeth without altering their daily appearance in the process. The trays are so thin and see-through that no one will know you’re using Invisalign unless you tell them! Plus, the trays slide on and off of the teeth easily, meaning you can eat whatever you want and brush like normal throughout treatment.

Invisalign® For Teens

Invisalign Clear Braces are often an excellent orthodontic choice for teenagers with crooked teeth and/or noticeable gaps. Invisalign Teen is very similar to traditional Invisalign, with a few significant differences. For instance, this treatment plan comes with a greater number of replacement aligners so that your family is covered if any are lost or damaged during your child’s busy routine. Additionally, the aligners have a colored dot that will slowly change over time as long as it’s being worn properly. This provides a sense of accountability that Dr. Gasper can check during regular progress appointments, as well as a helpful reminder for teens when it’s time to switch out their aligner!

The Treatment Method

The main difference between traditional braces and Invisalign is the method they use to move teeth into place. Braces use brackets affixed to the fronts of teeth connected by wires to move teeth. The wires are adjusted periodically to place pressure on the brackets, shifting teeth into alignment. Invisalign uses a series of clear, plastic aligners to complete the same process. Each set of alignment trays represents the smile one step closer to the desired end result. Patients simply wear the aligners for two weeks at a time. Then, exchange the alignment trays for the next set in the series.

Comfort & Convenience

Traditional braces are better suited for advanced bite alignment treatments. However, they require patients to visit the dental office frequently for adjustments. They may also irritate the soft tissue, leading to sores and discomfort. Invisalign orthodontics can be used at home with fewer, shorter dental checkup appointments throughout the course of treatment. Because the alignment trays are smooth plastic, Invisalign treatment can be much more comfortable, especially for patients who have metal allergies or sensitivities. When using traditional braces, you’ll need to make some changes to your diet and oral hygiene routines, but Invisalign allows you to eat all your favorite foods and brush and floss as usual.
